PAINTING SEIRIES
FESTIVALS REVISITED
2012
oil on canvas
In this series I continue to explore the world of transformative festivals, but begin to divert my focus towards describing more intimate personal experiences than mapping the overarching event. The method of image making evoked here could be described as psychedelic expressionism. During my travels living out of tents and vehicles, I met many fringe personalities which insisted that their paradigms and realities were much more fantastic than those who withheld the standards of contemporary living. The paintings were not made on sight of the events which they detail. Instead, I used photographs as a basic trigger and began to illustrate the scenes based on my memories of the magical paradigms I had experienced. By working from memory, I was able to create successful representations of my perception of the events taking place and not the argued reality.
